Bike Safety

Jun 19th, 2014 Posted in Safety

Did you know that it is the law in Manitoba that all cyclists under the age of 18 must wear a helmet?  Did you know that this law applies to children that are a passenger on a bike whether attached or towed by a bicycle?  Did you know that, as a parent of a child that does not wear a helmet, you could receive a ticket under the Highway Traffic Act.  This can result in a fine or the alternative of taking a Manitoba Bike Helmet safety course. This law came into effect on May 1, 2013.

A helmet should fit correctly in order to be effective.  Use the 2V1 rule to fit it properly.

A helmet should be CSA approved and will last 3 to 5 years.  If it is damaged, it should be replaced.

Be a good role model for your children and wear a helmet too!

For more information go to :http://www.gov.mb.ca/healthyliving/hlp/bikesafety/index.html#bike There is also a  video at this link that would be great for older children who don’t want to wear a helmet.  It shows that it is “cool” to wear a helmet.

Cycle safely and have fun!
